Simon Baker, charming gentleman

Hero of the series The Mentalist and muse of Givenchy Gentleman Only fragrance, Australian actor has also set a challenge, achievement, with a first film, Breath , soon on the screens. On this occasion, Simon Baker chose to indulge - in fashion, in words and in exclusivity - L'Express Styles.

"Paris in the rain, it is rather romantic, right?" Exclaims Simon Baker , in his suite of a Parisian palace. As Patrick Jane, her character in the famous American series The Mentalist , it's an incorrigible charmer. It appears laughing eyes and slightly drawn with fatigue traits. While in Paris for forty-eight hours, the actor of 47 years has just finishedshooting his first film as a director, Breath , the adaptation of the bestseller by Tim Winton . A challenge that he worked for seven years.

The story, which takes place in a small Australian coastal town in the 1970s, follows two teenagers surfing enthusiasts. They befriend Sando, a mysterious adventurer, played by Baker himself. "It's about searching for identity, rites of passage that mark our lives, of those defining moments during which we seek, we refines and defines, explains Simon Baker. In many ways, the history of these seeking thrills characters echoes my own life and my relationship with my father. "

Seasoned surfer, he grew up in Launceston, Tasmania, in a family of seven children. "I was raised in a very masculine world, where it is common undesirable and to be sensitive to art, or sensitive at all. It is an environment in which it is difficult to say that part self." At age 18, he enrolled at the Institute of Dramatic Art in Sydney. His acting career took off in 1997, when he appears in the film LA Confidential, withKevin Spacey and Russell Crowe .

"More serene in my life and in my professional choices"

Nine years later, The Devil Wears Prada (David Frankel), with Anne Hathaway and Meryl Streep , reveals the general public. Married to Australian actress Rebecca Rigg for seventeen years and father of three children, Simon Baker said today "serene" in his life and career choices. "Now I would favor only projects that really affect me and allow me to pass me."
For four years, he is also the face of perfume Gentleman Only, Givenchy . "I was interested to breathe new life to a classic perfume, launched forty years ago. It's also nice to play as a gentleman!" Simon Baker jokes. And what about his next cinema adventures? "I am guided by my heart," he answers emphatically. Intuition, then? "No, no, the heart" , he insists, by sketching a broad smile. If you say so, dear Simon ...
